2nd LD Writethru: Shooter injures 2 students on U.S. Tennessee campus

HOUSTON, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Two high school students were shot on campus in Nashville, the capital city of southern U.S. state of Tennessee on Wednesday, the Metro Nashville Police Department said.

A student shot another two students in the cafeteria of the Antioch High School on Wednesday morning. The shooter sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the police said.

"Antioch High School is on a lockdown due to shots being fired inside the school building," the school said on social media.

"Metro Police are on the scene. The person responsible for shooting is no longer a threat," the school said. "We will be gathering students in the auditorium and will provide information on reunification as soon as possible."

There are nearly 2,000 students at the high school, according to the school's website.

An investigation is underway, local media reported.

In March 2023, three nine-year-olds and three adults were shot dead at The Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school in the city.
