U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.17 percent to 109.089 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro declined to 1.0293 U.S. dollars from 1.0298 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.2231 dollars from 1.2200 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.46 Japanese yen, lower than 157.94 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was unchanged at 0.9127 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.4329 Canadian dollars from 1.4365 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar dropped to 11.1543 Swedish Kronor from 11.1796 Swedish Kronor.
