U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.32 percent to 103.493 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0865 U.S. dollars from 1.0825 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound added to 1.3046 dollars from 1.3008 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 149.51 Japanese yen, lower than 150.28 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.8654 Swiss francs from 0.8668 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3810 Canadian dollars from 1.3800 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar declined to 10.5321 Swedish Kronor from 10.5425 Swedish Kronor.
