Olympics | Oka gives Japan 2nd gymnastics gold from men's all-around

PARIS, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Shinnosuke Oka came out the new Olympic all-around champion of men's gymnastics here on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old edged China's Zhang Boheng to win his first Olympic gold and the second gold medal for Japan in gymnastics at Paris 2024.

Japan previously won the men's team final on Monday.

Oka was in the lead for the majority of the contest to score a total of 86.832 points, 0.233 ahead of the eventual silver medalist Zhang, who was the 2021 world all-around champion.

Zhang's compatriot Xiao Ruoteng took the bronze with 86.364.

Defending Olympic champion Daiki Hashimoto of Japan fell off the pommel horse, a repeat of his missteps in the team final, to finish in sixth place.
