U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, June 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 299.05 points, or 0.76 percent, to 39,112.16. The S&P 500 added 21.43 points, or 0.39 percent, to 5,469.3. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 220.84 points, or 1.26 percent, to 17,717.65.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with real estate and materials leading the laggards by losing 1.41 percent and 1.28 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and technology led the gainers by rising 1.85 percent and 1.79 percent, respectively.
