U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.37 percent to 104.724 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.0850 U.S. dollars from 1.0805 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.2738 U.S. dollars from 1.2686 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.98 Japanese yen, higher than 156.90 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.9146 Swiss francs from 0.9149 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3663 Canadian dollars from 1.3743 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar dropped to 10.6575 Swedish kronor from 10.7486 Swedish kronor.
