U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.3 percent to 105.227 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0781 U.S. dollars from 1.0745 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.2524 U.S. dollars from 1.2495 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 155.45 Japanese yen, lower than 155.61 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.9059 Swiss francs from 0.9081 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3677 Canadian dollars from 1.3731 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar lost to 10.8505 Swedish kronor from 10.9066 Swedish kronor.
