Eastern, Southern African countries face burnt of water, sanitation crisis: World Bank


ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Eastern and Southern Africa has faced a huge water and sanitation crisis, with 95 percent of the 247 million Africans who do not have access to clean water and sanitation live in this region, a World Bank official said Tuesday.

Speaking at the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Leadership Summit, Eastern and Southern Africa, which is underway in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian capital, Vice President of the World Bank for Eastern and Southern Africa Victoria Kwakwa said there are 37 million more people without basic water supply and 247 million more without basic sanitation in Sub-Saharan Africa compared to the year 2000.
