BARCELONA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Cosmetics, technology and treatment innovations that are revolutionizing the Spanish beauty industry were on show this week at the Cosmobeauty Barcelona 2023, an industry trade fair.

The fair, from Saturday to Monday, attracted some 50,000 industry professionals to the city's International Convention Center to discover new beauty products, devices and treatments, many of which rely on the latest technology.

"The beauty industry is on an entirely upward curve, and from within the sector there is increasing focus on medical cosmetics, on technological devices, on passive muscle-building and where cosmetics are concerned, everything natural," Oscar Martinez, press manager at Cosmobeauty Barcelona, told Xinhua.

Beauty and health go hand-in-hand in today's industry, and the fair featured organic and vegan cosmetics, as well as sustainable and cruelty-free products. It also showcased cosmeceuticals -- beauty products that combine cosmetics and medicine.

Other areas of the beauty industry represented at the fair were alternative therapies, micropigmentation, and tattooing. For the first time, there was also a section dedicated to spa and wellness therapies, treatments and equipment.

The 34th International Congress of Advanced Aesthetics took place during the fair, with experts in aesthetics, and doctors in the world of aesthetic medicine giving a series of presentations and workshops about the latest advances.

"This is an important market because in Spain we're selling an image of sun and light, happiness and fun, and we have some great products and some great brands. Here at the fair we have well-established firms selling a range of devices and cosmetics," said Martinez.

Spain's beauty market is worth 8.2 billion euros, according to the National Association of Perfumery and Cosmetics (Stanpa). The country is among the top ten world exporters of beauty products.
