DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Four out of six primary school pupils were reported missing on Friday morning after their boat capsized in a crocodile and hippo infested river in Tanzania's western region of Kigoma, said an official.

Salum Kali, the Kigoma district commissioner, said the pupils were crossing over to a primary school on the other side of the Luiche River before it capsized at 7:30 a.m. local time.

Speaking from the scene of the accident, Kali said two pupils and the captain of the boat had been rescued, adding that the other four pupils were still missing.

He said a team of rescuers were still searching for the missing pupils in the Luiche River that flows into Lake Tanganyika.

Kali said preliminary investigations showed that the boat capsized after it was hit by strong waves.
