LUSAKA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The number of cholera cases in eastern Zambia's Vubwi district has reached 36, health authorities said on Sunday.
This follows five new cases recorded in the previous 24 hours, data released by the Ministry of Health has shown.
According to the figures, the death toll still stands at one, while two people were discharged in the last 24 hours, leaving eight people still in admission.
The health ministry said it has administered 15,567 cholera vaccines as part of efforts to contain the water-borne disease.
Cholera broke out in Vubwi district, which borders Malawi where a cholera outbreak is wreaking havoc, last month.
Last week, authorities in the district suspended operations of a popular mobile market used by both locals and traders from neighboring Malawi for fear that it could be a super spreader of the disease.
