U.S. dollar firms up on renewed monetary tightening expectations

NEW YORK, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar gained ground firmly in late trading Monday on renewed monetary tightening expectations.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.71 percent to 105.2920 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).
