Chinese pair Xu/Yang reach 3rd round of U.S. Open women's doubles

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Seventh seeds Xu Yifan/Yang Zhaoxuan of China advanced to the women's doubles third round at the U.S. Open by beating Rebecca Peterson/Anastasia Potapova in straight sets on Friday.

Xu and Yang played an upper hand throughout the match, seeing off the Swedish-Russian pair 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 15 minutes.

In the opening round on Thursday, Xu/Yang came from behind to defeat their compatriot Han Xinyun and Russian Evgeniya Rodina.
