U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.48 percent to 89.4400 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).
