U.S. dollar stays flat

NEW YORK, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar was unchanged at close in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was unchanged at 89.9700 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.2214 U.S. dollars from 1.2210 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3657 dollars from 1.3664 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was down to 0.7694 U.S. dollar from 0.7705 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 103.19 Japanese yen, lower than 103.27 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.8848 Swiss franc from 0.8857 Swiss franc, and it increased to 1.2757 Canadian dollars from 1.2737 Canadian dollars.
