Oman to reimpose night-time lockdown from Sunday

MUSCAT, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Oman will reimpose a night-time ban on movement and enforce the closure of shops and public places from Oct. 11 to 24, to help contain the coronavirus, the official Oman News Agency（ONA) reported on Friday.

The restrictions will be effective from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. local time.

Beaches in Oman will also be closed until further notice, according to ONA, reporting a decision from the supreme council in charge of limiting the spread of the virus.

Oman has recorded 104,129 COVID-19 infections and 1,009 deaths so far. Daily new cases have been rising since the end of August, following a fall in July.

As a country with 4.7 million people, Oman lifted a night curfew in mid-August and resumed international flights on Oct. 1.

Authorities will also close down some enterprises which had previously re-opened and not followed the prevention measures, according to a government statement.
