Ghanaian president elected chairman of ECOWAS

ACCRA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The heads of state and governments of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Monday elected Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the new chairman of the regional group, said the Ghanaian government.

The election took place at the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summit in Niamey, the capital of Niger. Akufo-Addo takes over from Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou for a 12-month rotational chairmanship.
