Most Brazilians back stricter steps to preserve Amazon: poll

BRASILIA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Some 83 percent of Brazilians are in favor of tougher measures to combat deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, according to a survey released on Thursday.

The survey carried out by polling firm Ipespe and published by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) showed 67 percent are against the reduction of indigenous reserves and 86 percent against allowing mining in indigenous reserves.
