German shares fall 0.54 pct Thursday

FRANKFURT, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- German stocks edged down on Thursday, with the benchmark DAX index down 68.57 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 12,591.68 points.

Personal-care company Beiersdorf lost 5.55 percent, the top loser among the blue chips, followed by automotive supplier Continental and European health care company Fresenius SE, which lost 2.57 percent and 2.36 percent respectively.

Material manufacturer Covestro gained 3.68 percent, becoming the top gainer. Sportswear and equipment maker Adidas and manufacturing and electronics company Siemens advanced 1.88 percent and 1.62 percent respectively.

Siemens was the most traded share with a turnover of 329.07 million euros (389.72 million U.S. dollars).

China's Haier, a leading global household appliances manufacturer listed in Frankfurt in 2018, gained 1.11 percent to close at 0.81 euros per share on Thursday.
