FLORIDA (ANN): One reporter from Florida, United States discovered she had cancer, thanks to a concerned viewer.
Victoria Price, who works at WFLA News in Tampa Bay, expressed her gratitude to the viewer in a statement on Twitter last Friday, July 24.
“’8 on Your Side’ isn’t just a catchphrase at WFLA. It’s our cornerstone. But the roles recently reversed when I found a viewer on MY side, and I couldn’t be more grateful, ” she said.

Turns out, I have cancer. And I owe it to one of our wonderful @WFLA viewers for bringing it to my attention.

“We were covering the most important health story in a century, but my own health was the farthest thing from my mind. Until a viewer emailed me last month, ” Price recalled.
“She saw a lump on my neck. Said it reminded her of her own. Hers was cancer.”
The broadcast journalist got the lump checked and found out it was cancer. She is set for surgery on Monday to have the tumor removed, along with her thyroid and nearby lymph nodes.
“Doctor says it’s spreading, but not too much and we’re hopeful this will be my first and last procedure, ” Price said.
She shared a picture in another tweet to better show the mass: “Doc explained that the tumor is in the middle of my thyroid, pushing the glands up and out, hence the subtle protrusion.”
“I will forever be grateful to the woman who went out of her way to email me, a total stranger, ” the reporter said. “She had zero obligation to, but she did anyway. Talk about being on your side, huh?”
She added in her tweet that she will take time off “for a bit.”
WFLA shared her statement on Twitter and said, “Our WFLA family is sending all of our love to @WFLAVictoria and wishing her a speedy recovery.” – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
