VERDICT:

TRUE

According to Bernama, the Johor Royal Press Office (RPO) has detected several scam video accounts on the social media platform TikTok, which use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to imitate the voice of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

In a post shared on the official Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, on Wednesday (Feb 25), the Royal Press Office said that the content from these accounts features a voice resembling His Majesty's, allegedly linked to claims of financial assistance for the public in conjunction with Ramadan.

"The public is advised to remain vigilant and not be easily influenced by these fake accounts, which are often used by scammers for fraudulent purposes on social media platforms.

"The Royal Press Office would like to stress that impersonation and misuse of identity constitute offences under the law," the statement said.

Checks on TikTok found that two videos were uploaded via the account @bantuan.rakyat.ma6, using images and a voice resembling that of Sultan Ibrahim.
