Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. What do these famous actors have in common other than being in the Fast and Furious movie franchise?
They're bald, of course. And that they have their mums to thank for their follically-challenged domes - if conventional wisdom is to be believed.
So, is it true that male-pattern baldness is solely due to genes inherited from the mother's side?
VERDICT:
FALSE
According to doctors and medical experts, the theory that male pattern baldness is caused only by genetics from the mother's family is not true.
"Contrary to the folk wisdom that baldness is inherited from one's mother's family, the condition seems to depend on genes contributed by both parents," wrote Harvard Health Publishing's chief medical editor, Dr Howard E. LeWine.
Medical doctor and hair loss expert, Dr Thivos Sokratous, said that male pattern baldness is more complex than just genetics.
He said that the cause is most likely a combination of genes from both parents alongside other factors like hormones, lifestyle, diet and stress.
So next time you want to blame your mom after glancing at a cue ball in the mirror, make sure to spread some of that blame to dad and yourself, too.
