TRAFFIC congestion at the airport makes the simple task of dropping off or picking up passengers difficult.
To resolve this issue, KL International Airport (KLIA) is trialling a new Vehicle Access Management System.
However, a post was circulated online claiming that KLIA is imposing a RM100 penalty on vehicles that take more than 10 minutes to pass through its pick-up and drop-off points during the system’s trial period. Is this true?
VERDICT:

FALSE
According to KLIA, no penalty fees will be imposed during the trial period. In a statement on its Facebook page dated Aug 30, KLIA announced that it is conducting a trial run of the new system at Terminal 1 from Sept 1 to Nov 30, and at Terminal 2 from Sept 15 to Nov 30.
It said the trial period would focus on observing traffic patterns, driver behaviour and overall system performance to determine the optimal grace period and penalty fee structure for full implementation.
“Following the trial period, penalty fees will be introduced to discourage extended waiting at the kerbside.
"The grace period duration and penalty fee amounts will be determined based on data collected during the trial, ensuring the system effectively balances accessibility with traffic flow management, “ said KLIA.
