QuickCheck: Did a man climb to the top of an electric substation in Kedah?


A man climbed a TNB substation near Kedah before being arrested by the police on Monday (May 20).

A VIDEO recently went viral showing a man dangerously clambering up a power substation.

The footage, which caught the attention of many, prompted discussions and concerns about the incident's authenticity.

Allegedly, the video was shot in Kedah recently. Is this true?

TRUE

"In the incident on Monday (May 20), the IPD Kubang Pasu operations room received information from members of the public at 6.24pm that a man was seen climbing up a power substation," said Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Rodzi Abu Hassan, adding that the substation which belonged to Tenanga Nasional was located near Kampung Muhibbah, Bandar Darulaman in Kedah.

"The Motorcycle Patrol Unit and members of the Jitra Police Station were then dispatched to investigate and found that the suspect was still on top of the substation," he said, adding that the police worked with the Jitra Fire and Rescue Station, the Kubang Pasu Civil Defense Force and an ambulance to talk the man down.

Rescuers finally brought down the suspect by 8.45pm and handed him over to the police.

"The 39-year-old suspect was detained at the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters lock-up and was referred to the National Anti-Drug Agency for a urine screening test on Tuesday (May 21), said Supt Rodzi.
