LATELY, accidents have been quite rampant on many major expressways and highways in the country.

This has resulted in serious injuries, damaged vehicles and worse, lives lost.

A 30-second clip, dated Wednesday (May 15), of a video believed to be dashcam footage showing a car suddenly skidding out of control on a puddle of liquid has gone viral.

Is it true that this incident happened in Klang, as alleged in the comments?

VERDICT:

TRUE

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong said they detected the viral video that was believed to have been taken along Persiaran Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang heading towards Bulatan Simpang Lima.

"The video shows several cars losing control due to slippery road conditions resulting from an oil spill.

"The scene of the incident is a three-lane curved road and there was a diesel slick on the rightmost lane of the road," he said in a statement Thursday (May 16).

ACP Cha said, so far only one car owner had lodged a police report over the incident, and the incident only caused vehicle damage.

"No one was hurt in the incident and the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules for failing to control a vehicle’s movement.

"We are investigating if there is any element of sabotage by irresponsible parties in this incident," he said urging anyone with information to come forward and help the police in investigations.

Police have not discounted sabotage over the oil spill that caused several vehicles to skid out of control, he added.

ACP Cha said the oil spill had been cleared by road maintenance workers and the road is safe for use by all motorists.
