QuickCheck: Has the e-Filing submission deadline been extended?

MARCH might have already come and gone, there are a few hold-outs who have yet to submit their tax returns for the the financial year of 2023. There are many reasons for someone to submit their returns late and those that do are usually hit with a stiff penalty.

Thankfully though, there's been news that the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has extended the submission date.

Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

In a statement on Thursday (April 26), LHDN announced that it was extending the deadline for non-business taxpayers from April 30 to May 15.

This group of taxpayers are resident individuals (knowledge workers / expert workers / non-citizen workers holding key positions) and non-resident individuals.

The extension also involves non-resident individuals (knowledge workers), organisations, deceased person’s estates, and Hindu joint families, it said.

Employers on the other hand have had their submissions dates pushed all the way back to May 30.
