QuickCheck: Did a motorist lead authorities on a car chase near Klang?

FOR those fearing the long arm of the law, any sign of their presence can motivate a person to try to flee through any means possible.

It was claimed recently that a man led a Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement team on a car chase while on a patrol near Klang.

Did such a car chase happen as claimed?

VERDICT:

TRUE

This is in fact true and was confirmed by Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @Saleh, who said in a press release that the incident happened at Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor which is in the Klang area.

Supt Ahmad Ridhwan said that a JPJ enforcement officer had lodged a police report on the incident on Monday (Feb 5) and added that the complainant had reported that his team had encountered a car behaving in a suspicious manner.

“The complainant then turned on his beacon lights and ordered the driver of the car to halt, but the suspect turned to flee. He then chased the suspect and during the chase, the suspect encountered traffic congestion and in reversing hit a car from the team and two from the public,” he added.

Supt Ahmad Ridhwan then said that the suspect tried to flee again and was finally stopped in front of a school in Telok Panglima Garang.

He added that although the JPJ team was able to stop the car, open the drivers side door and seize the keys, the suspect was able to slide out the front passenger door and head out to the housing area.

Supt Ahmad Ridhwan then said that an investigation has been opened under Section 188 of the Penal Code and also urged the public to not speculate on the case.
