QuickCheck: Did a ‘family’ steal from a phone accessories shop in Johor?

A family that steals together... goes viral together? Recently a viral video showed seven people, believed to be a family, stealing from a phone accessories shop in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

CCTV footage of the group sneakily pocketing the items was shared on the Penduduk Kota Tinggi Facebook page.

One of the thieves, a boy, was also seen in the video opening a product that was supposed to be on sale before hiding it under the display rack.

The group was seen working as a team as further footage showed the group spread out while one of them - a man - pocketed an item from the display rack.

Did this really happen?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said police have opened an investigation paper over the viral footage posted on Jan 24, after several individuals believed to be family members got out from a Proton Wira and entered the mobile phone accessories shop around 7pm.

He said that Kota Tinggi police would initiate an investigation into the matter and urged individuals who witnessed the act, including the owner of the premise to lodge a police report at the nearest police station.

This gives a whole new meaning to the term "crime family".
