QuickCheck: Is it true that the PSD deputy DG's letterhead was misused?

RECENTLY, a memo went viral on the direct messaging app WhatsApp announcing a pay rise for Public Service Department (PSD) staff.

The memo uses the official letterhead of the PSD deputy director-general, which would lend it some credibility - but something seems unusual about it upon closer examination.

Is it true that unscrupulous individuals have misused the deputy DG's letterhead?

Verdict:

TRUE

Unfortunately for PSD staff, it is true that the memo was meant as a joke and the deputy DG's letterhead was misused to spread it.

"The 2024 Civil Servant salary increase memo that uses the letterhead of the department's deputy DG (Development) is fake," said the PSD in a statement on its official Facebook page.

"It's OK to joke but there are limits," it went on to say while urging the public to use social media wisely.
