QuickCheck: Was a python caught just after swallowing a wild boar in Kedah?


REPTILES can sometimes pose danger to surrounding wildlife. We're not talking about smaller varieties such as lizards, but the potential threat of snakes like pythons and cobras.

Recently, it is said that a 5m-long python was caught after having a meal consisting of a wild boar at a rubber plantation in Kedah.

Is this true?

A giant python weighing 40kg was recently caught after swallowing a wild boar in Kampung Charok Bakong, Baling in Kedah.

The incident was confirmed by Baling Civil Defence Force (APM) district officer Leftenan (PA) Mohd Faizol Aziz.

Modh Faizol said they received a distress call from the public at noon on Tuesday (Jan 9) before dispatching four APM personnel to deal with the situation.

"The farmer encountered the reptile when going to the plantation to check on his rubber trees," he said.

Mohd Faizol said the python was successfully caught after 25 minutes.

He said the reptile was sent to the Baling APM office and later handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

Mohd Faizol advised the public to keep a close watch of their homes and surroundings for the presence of dangerous reptiles.
