QuickCheck: Did a tapir collision accident in Johor cause injuries to road users?


GENERALLY, the possibility of an accident involving wildlife is a real one when travelling in rural areas in Malaysia.

It was claimed online recently that several motorcyclists were injured when they accidentally hit a tapir near Kluang, Johor. Is there any truth to this?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The incident was confirmed by Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh, who said that three motorcyclists and a pillion rider were injured when they hit a tapir that was crossing the road near KM79 of Jalan Kota Tinggi – Kluang near Taman Sri Impian on Wednesday (Oct 4).

He said that the incident happened at about 8.30pm, adding that the three injured were aged 57, 40 and 19.

“All three sustained injuries to their shoulder, hands and legs and were rushed to Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom, Kluang for treatment,” added ACP Bahrin.

He said that the investigation showed that all three motorcycles were heading from Taman Sri Impian to Taman Sri Lambak when they hit the tapir.

The tapir was killed in the accident.
