QuickCheck: Has Jho Low been taken off the Interpol Red Notice list?

AT the end of last week, a claim went viral on Twitter that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, has been taken off the Interpol Red Notice list.

Is this claim true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

The police have rubbished the claim, and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin confirmed that a police report had been lodged against Twitter user @theborneoghost for posting the tweet.

She said the post claimed that Low was taken off the list to trick him into coming back to Malaysia.

"We refute this fake news which is irresponsible and intended to cause public anxiety. The Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (D5) opened an investigation for defamation and misuse of network facilities," she said.

She urged the public to be smart and responsible social media users.

"Do not misuse the platform to spread fake news which could threaten public order and security," she said.
