EARLIER this week, a message went viral on WhatsApp claiming that the Johor government will be granting a state holiday on Thursday (Sept 29) to celebrate its Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2022 performance.
Is the claim true?
VERDICT:
FALSE
In a statement on Tuesday (Sept 27), the Johor State Secretary's Office said the administration vehemently denied a statement that had gone viral on social media recently.
“The administration denies the statement that was released and went viral. It also regrets the actions of irresponsible parties issuing false statements that cause confusion to the public," it added.
Last Saturday (Sept 24), Johor was crowned Sukma champion after winning 77 gold medals, 52 silver medals and 43 bronze medals.
The contingent made history as it was the first time Johor emerged champion in Sukma's 36-year history.
