A VIDEO is currently circulating online of a young man using a crocodile as a weapon during a street brawl.

Is this a real video or was it set up?

Verdict:

YES- THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Street brawls tend to be unplanned events where participants use whatever they can get their hands on as weapons.

From knives and sticks to chairs and tables, anything on hand will do.

However, some "weapons of opportunity" can be rather unusual and in this case, outright snappy.

On Sept 18, a group of students in Duren Sawit in East Jakarta, Indonesia got into a scuffle that turned nasty.

The participants in the fight brought an array of weapons which included sharp objects and rocks, but one bright spark felt he needed something with more bite – so he wielded a small crocodile.

"Yes, the perpetrator (who brought the crocodile) was attacked; so eventually, he joined the brawl. He is a student in the animal department," said the head of Duren Sawit Police, Commissioner M. Marbun, on Monday (Sept 26).

Marbun then confirmed that the animal was actually school property and the student had been tasked with its care.

He added that 11 people had been taken into custody so far and that no casualties or injuries had been reported.

Police confiscated the crocodile as evidence, and it was handed over to the East Jakarta Environment Department.
