QuickCheck: Were hundreds of bikes stolen at a motorcycle meet?

– Bernama

THE recent RXZ Members 4.0 2022 programme held at Kompleks Sukan Negeri Gong Badak in Terengganu on Saturday (Aug 13) saw over 40,000 Yamaha RXZ riders and enthusiasts turn up. But according to some on social media, thieves followed suit and stole hundreds of motorcycles.

Is this true?

Verdict:

FALSE

According to Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa, the allegations were fabricated and removed from reality.

The police chief said they only received two reports of missing motorcycles on Saturday, not the hundreds claimed online.

"Only two motorcycles went missing and there was also a fatal accident involving a member of the programme who was travelling from Selangor to here (Kuala Terengganu). Don't be too quick to believe what you read on social media," he said

Rohaimi then advised organisers or associations interested in holding activities or programmes, such as the RXZ Members 4.0 2022 gathering, to inform police in advance so as to facilitate the drafting of safety measures.
