RECENTLY, it has been claimed that the Tourism Ministry is involved in the organising of the Konsert Rakyat Melaka on Sept 3 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC). Is this claim true?

In a statement on Thursday (Aug 11), the Tourism Ministry said that it has nothing to do with the organising of the concert.
The ministry said that it never received any application from the organiser for cooperation on the concert, adding that it applied for funding under the Cultural Sector Matching Grant (GSSK) for the organisation of the programme.
"Thus, statements saying the concert is being organised with the cooperation of the ministry is not true at all,” it said.
The ministry added that while it supports arts and cultural programmes, it views any misuse of its name for the purposes of promotion, publicity or to get funding from any parties seriously.
