QuickCheck: Did a lorry plough through cars on the Malaysia-Singapore Causeway?


A VIDEO has gone viral on social media; in the video shared on Facebook by the portal Majoriti, a lorry can be seen ploughing through traffic, along with news that this happened on Thursday (July 7) on the Malaysian side of the Causeway heading to Singapore.

Did this really happen?

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed the incident, which occurred at around 9am on Thursday.

"The incident involved 12 vehicles. No one sustained any injuries and investigations are underway to find out the cause of the incident.

"Police are investigating the case under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said when contacted here.

Videos of the incident have since gone viral on various social media platforms.

One of the videos showed a tipper truck crashing into multiple cars before coming to a stop at the Causeway.

In a Facebook post, Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that the incident occurred leading to Woodlands Checkpoints at the Causeway.

ICA added one of the three lanes on the Causeway is blocked due to the accident.

"Arriving travellers should expect delays. Motorists are advised to follow our Facebook page for updates," said the ICA.
