QuickCheck: Were over 30 motorcycles burnt in a fire at a Bukit Jalil apartment complex?


RECENTLY, photos emerged online of rows of burnt motorcycles at a parking lot, and it is claimed that the photos were taken at the Kampung Muhibbah flats in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Did this happen as claimed?

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said they were alerted to the case at 2.21am on Wednesday (July 6).

"We received a call from a woman, claiming that a number of motorcycles were on fire at Block G of the flats at Bukit Jalil.

“The fire was put out by the Fire and Rescue Department," he said in a statement.

ACP Muhammad Idzam said no injuries were reported in the incident but 34 motorcycles were damaged.

“These motorcycles were parked close to each other. The police and Fire and Rescue Department forensic unit conducted an investigation at the scene to ascertain the cause of the fire,” he said, adding that the case was classified as mischief by fire.

ACP Muhammad Idzam said they have opened investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code, as elements of arson were found.

"We are tracking down the suspect. We urge those with information on the case to come forward immediately," he said.
