QuickCheck: Did an unemployed man ram a police car in Perak?

RECENTLY, claims surfaced online over how an unemployed man crashed his car into a police patrol vehicle near Sungkai, Perak in a bid to evade arrest.

Did this really happen?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Muallim OCPD Supt Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir said the 31-year-old man from Felda Gunung Besout Satu made a sudden U-turn near MRSM Trolak and crashed head-on into the pursuing police vehicle at 11.30pm on Wednesday (June 29).

"The man was heading towards Besout after a traffic light junction before he made the U-turn.

After the collision, police arrested the man," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 30).

Supt Mohd Hasni said that the man turned into a one-way road towards Trolak, driving dangerously and had earlier made a U-turn to avoid a roadblock at KM102 near Taman Bukit Slim.

"Police went after the man and ordered him to stop his car three times but he refused," he added.

Supt Mohd Hasni added that the man also tried to force the police car off the road during the 15km chase which lasted for 10 minutes.

He then said that when the car was stopped and searched, drugs were found.

"We found 11 packets containing 18g of a substance, believed to be methamphetamine worth RM1,800, in a black duffel bag carried by the man.

"The man also tested positive for methamphetamine," he added.

Supt Mohd Hasni said the man will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

"He will also be investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for disrupting a civil servant from doing his duty," he said, adding that the man has three previous drug-related offences on his criminal record.
