On Monday (Feb 14), a post went up on the @ES_EdisiKhas Twitter account; the writer of the post claimed that Manjung, Batu Gajah and Ipoh have many online gambling shops as well as rampant prostitution at entertainment clubs. Is this true?
VERDICT:
FALSE
At a press conference at the Perak police headquarters on Wednesday (Feb 16), state police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid refuted the claim.
“I can assure you that there are no prostitution activities happening in Perak. There might be gambling activities in several areas but we have taken serious action against them.
“I have instructed OCPDs to take immediate and stern action against these activities if it is happening in their areas,” he said.
He also refuted another allegation by @ES_EdisiKhas, which claimed that no action was taken by the police as they received bribes from criminal syndicates.
“Anyone who has such information can come forward so we can take action. If it is true, we will investigate. Don’t just simply say things on social media irresponsibly," said Comm Mior.
