Zakat Selangor launches year-end campaign to support asnaf

Mohd Khaidzir delivers his speech during the launch of the ‘Kerana Zakat’ year-end campaign in Shah Alam on Oct 20. The campaign, themed ‘Kita Peduli’, calls on the Muslim community to fulfil their zakat obligations and support asnaf families in Selangor.

LEMBAGA Zakat Selangor (Zakat Selangor) has launched its “Kerana Zakat” campaign, themed “Kita Peduli”, to encourage the public to join hands in supporting asnaf in Selangor, including more than 82,000 families comprising the poor, needy and Muslim converts.

The campaign calls on Muslims, particularly in Selangor, to fulfil their zakat obligations before the end of 2026 to ensure that the needs of asnaf continue to receive attention and support.

Zakat Selangor chief executive officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari said asnaf families require various forms of assistance, including basic necessities, education, healthcare, welfare support and economic development.

“This is a shared responsibility. Zakat payers fulfil their obligations, while Zakat Selangor manages the trust placed in us to ensure that the benefits reach those who are entitled to receive them.

“Through zakat, we can work together to help asnaf improve their lives and build a better future,” he said.

He was speaking at the Media Gathering and Launch of the Zakat Selangor 2026 Year-End Campaign held here on Oct 20.

From January to September this year, Zakat Selangor distributed more than RM750mil in zakat funds through various forms of assistance, including asnaf development programmes.

Mohd Khaidzir said various activities and programmes had been lined up throughout the campaign, which runs from October to December, to demonstrate care for asnaf while strengthening public understanding of and confidence in zakat through sharing its benefits.

These include visits to asnaf families, the distribution of school assistance for the 2027 academic year, entrepreneurship training and assistance, career initiatives for asnaf, as well as religious outreach and community activities.

Several programmes involving zakat payers were also planned to give them opportunities to learn more about the lives of asnaf, while strengthening the relationship between contributors and beneficiaries.

The public can obtain more information about the campaign’s activities and programmes through Zakat Selangor’s official website or social media channels.

In a related development, Zakat Selangor held a symbolic exchange of documents to formalise a strategic collaboration with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme to provide homes for eligible asnaf in Selangor.

The collaboration combines government subsidies and zakat funding, with Zakat Selangor covering the remaining construction costs after the government subsidy has been deducted.

Mohd Khaidzir said the house specifications has also been improved to meet Zakat Selangor’s standards for assistance homes and ensure that the houses were ready for occupation.

He expressed hope that the approach would improve the efficiency of zakat fund utilisation and enable more asnaf families to enjoy better housing.

The event also recognised media partners for their continued cooperation in disseminating information on zakat and the various assistance and asnaf development initiatives to the public.

Mohd Khaidzir hoped the strong relationship with media partners would continue to raise public awareness and understanding of zakat and Zakat Selangor’s role in supporting asnaf.

Also present was Zakat Selangor chief corporate and special projects officer Ariffa Ariffin.
