JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old man, who apparently used his MyKid to apply for jobs, claimed that he had resorted to doing so after failed attempts to get a MyKad.
The man, who has been working at a factory for four months, said that his previous employers had told him that using a MyKid for employment purposes was acceptable.
His “strategy” was discovered yesterday when the National Registration Department (NRD) conducted an operation at a factory in Pasir Gudang here.
According to him, his attempts to obtain a MyKad since the age of 12 had failed due to documentation issues.
He has since been detained for further investigations.
NRD deputy director-general (operations) Sarinah Apisah said cases involving individuals with “questionable” identity records could require lengthy investigations, particularly when there were doubts about information provided at birth.
“Sometimes, it takes time to trace witnesses who can verify a birth. We may also need to locate parents or relatives to establish whether the person is a Malaysian citizen,” she said.
The NRD would endeavour to expedite the man’s MyKad application if the information he provided was verified, she said.
