PN to challenge deregistration

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will challenge the validity of its deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), says its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said Perikatan would seek a stay of the order and all its effects pending the court’s ruling.

He said Perikatan would also take action against all parties who showed contempt for or disregarded court proceedings.

Previously, the High Court allowed leave for Perikatan to commence judicial review against an ROS suspension order on Perikatan's activities, with the hearing scheduled for Thursday (Oct 22).

"We will challenge the validity of the revocation order and seek a stay of its implementation and all its effects pending the court’s determination," he told a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 20).

"We also urge the Attorney General to explain the action taken in light of his department’s position in court during the hearing of Perikatan’s application for a stay on Oct 22."

He added that Perikatan’s component parties remained united in defending the people’s rights and mandate through legal channels and the democratic process.

Earlier, it was reported that Perikatan had been deregistered by the ROS under Subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966.
