KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department says it is investigating allegations of corrupt practices within the department.
In a statement on Saturday (Oct 17), the department said that it had taken note of a news report that was published regarding alleged irregularities in the issuance of special passes at its Jalan Duta headquarters.
“The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department takes these allegations seriously. Its integrity division will conduct an investigation to determine the validity of the claims.
“We will not tolerate any misconduct. Appropriate action will be taken if there is evidence of violations of the law or regulations,” it said.
It added that the public are advised to conduct their dealings through the official channels and avoid using unauthorised intermediaries.
“We remain committed to ensuring that its services are delivered with integrity, transparency and professionalism to maintain public confidence in the department,” the department said.
An exposé published on Saturday alleged that a crime syndicate was able to obtain special passes without following proper procedures via counter-setting.
