A SHOUTING match broke out in the august House over the lack of allocations for Opposition MPs and weaknesses in the anti-party hopping law.
The verbal tussle between Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) and Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah) erupted after Cha challenged Kiandee to support his allegations concerning the anti-hopping law and the lack of funds for opposition MPs.
“Those who are sitting on the government side of the House today may one day find themselves in the same position and become victims of the powers enjoyed by those sitting on the other side,” Kiandee said when debating Budget 2027.
He also claimed opposition MPs were denied constituency funding following the 2018 general election and subsequent change of administration.
Cha interjected and demanded Kiandee to prove his claims, including whether opposition MPs had received allocations before 2018.
Kiandee replied that allocations for MPs were at the prime minister’s discretion and not guaranteed by law.
“If it happened, say it happened. If it didn’t, say it didn’t,” Cha said, referring to opposition MPs who were similarly denied allocations prior to 2018.
“Don’t lie in the Dewan Rakyat,” Cha said when continuing to interject.
A visibly annoyed Kiandee ignored Cha’s continued interjections and resumed his speech.
The situation calmed down after Deputy Speaker Alice Lau issued a stern warning to Cha to sit down and allow Kiandee to continue speaking.
