Haze: All S'wak schools to reopen on Oct 15

KUCHING: All schools in Sarawak will operate as usual on Thursday (Oct 15) following a one-day temporary closure due to the haze, says the state Education Department.

It said, however, that schools in areas with an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 100 and above should suspend all outdoor activities involving students.

"Students are encouraged to wear face masks as a health precaution in the current hazy conditions," the department said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 14).

It added that parents or guardians may opt not to send their children to school if they are concerned about their health and inform the school accordingly.

Primary and secondary schools in Serian, Sri Aman and Lubok Antu were closed on Wednesday after unhealthy API readings above 150 were recorded in their respective districts.

Home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) was conducted during the closure while teachers and support staff were allowed to work from home.
