KUALA LUMPUR: A war of words broke out in the Dewan Rakyat after an Opposition lawmaker sought clarification on plans to repatriate migrant refugees in Malaysia.
Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) said the government had yet to provide clear details on the arrangement.
He then took aim at RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), who earlier commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for repatriation measures.
“What Jelutong mentioned was merely an agreement without any figures.
"The question is when it will be implemented, how it will be implemented, and we must not let this issue remain unresolved,” Ahmad Fahdli said while debating Budget 2027 on Tuesday (Oct 13).
Rayer interjected, saying that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had also previously shown support for Myanmar migrants in Malaysia.
Ahmad Fadhli then hit back at Rayer, referencing Anwar’s statement from an April 2020 report in which he had expressed support for helping Rohingya refugees on humanitarian grounds.
Rayer then asked Ahmad Fadhli not to mislead the house.
Tan Sri Speaker Johari Abdul stepped in and urged Ahmad Fadhli to wind up his speech.
