PUTRAJAYA: The government’s one-off RM1,000 aid under Budget 2027 for taxi, rental car and school bus drivers will be disbursed in stages from Wednesday (Oct 14).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the aid would benefit about 38,000 taxi and rental car drivers and 15,000 school bus drivers.
“The H-series vehicle registration numbers have generated RM91mil and we are returning this revenue to taxi and rental car drivers, as well as school bus drivers.
“We are committed to distributing the payments as soon as possible so that Hindu drivers can receive the aid before Deepavali.
“The first batch will receive the aid this Wednesday, followed by other groups in stages. We hope to fulfil the Prime Minister’s intention as quickly as possible,” he said at a special press conference on Budget 2027 on Monday (Oct 12).
In a separate development, Loke said the RM50 monthly MyKomuter50 pass offered by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) was expected to be introduced by January next year at the latest.
He said the pass would allow Malaysians to enjoy unlimited travel on KTM commuter services for 30 days, helping to reduce transport costs and the cost of living.
“The concept is the same as the My50 pass for Prasarana services. For RM50 a month, KTM Komuter users can travel without limits for 30 days.
“This offers significant savings and will help reduce the cost of living, particularly for those who use the service to travel longer distances,” he said.
He added that the initiative could help a commuter travelling from Tanjung Malim to Kuala Lumpur save RM366 a month, while those travelling from Alor Setar to Butterworth could save up to RM250.
“Meanwhile, commuters using the KTM Southern Shuttle service between Kluang and Johor Baru could save more than RM200 a month, while those travelling from Seremban to Kuala Lumpur could save at least RM300," he said.
