PETALING JAYA: The public can now report offences under the country’s smoking control law through MyLapor, a digital system that channels complaints directly to district health offices.
The system, which began operating on Monday (Oct 12), allows users to submit complaints through MySejahtera, scan a MyLapor QR code or access its online portal.
The Health Ministry said in a statement that MyLapor was developed to strengthen enforcement of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852).
“Each complaint will be channelled directly to the nearest district health office based on the location of the incident, allowing faster and more effective enforcement action,” it said.
Users can also receive updates on the status of complaints submitted through MySejahtera.
The ministry said the system allows people to report offences without having to confront those committing them.
Digital complaint management would also help health authorities monitor reports, identify locations requiring attention and plan enforcement action.
“Active public participation can help improve compliance with smoking bans and protect the public, particularly children, from exposure to cigarette smoke,” it said.
The ministry urged users to provide accurate and complete information to assist investigations.
Premises owners and operators were also encouraged to display MyLapor QR codes prominently and ensure compliance with smoking bans at their premises.
