JOHOR BARU: Johor will check haze levels every day at noon before deciding whether to close or reopen schools, says state education and information committee chairman Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali.
A special task force and the state disaster management team are working together to keep students safe while keeping parents and teachers updated.
He said this after he chaired a state haze management coordination meeting involving the state Education Department, district education offices, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, National Security Council, Johor Parent-Teacher Associations, Community and Private Sector Engagement (PIBKS), the Johor State Secretary’s Office and other relevant agencies.
Dr Naqib said decisions will not depend only on Air Pollutant Index (API) numbers. The state will also look at health risks and overall safety.
"We want to protect our children's health, but we also want to make sure their studies are not disrupted for too long," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 12).
He added that any news about school closures will be shared early so parents and teachers have enough time to plan ahead.
